East Texas Lighthouse for the Blind is expanding educational programs to include Microsoft Office Specialist Training (MOS) and Assistive Technology Training (AT).
Microsoft Office Specialist Training Program
Self-paced instructions to obtain certification at three different levels (core, expert, and master level) for the following certifications:
- Microsoft Excel 2010
- Microsoft Outlook 2010
- Microsoft PowerPoint 2010
- Microsoft Word 2010
- Microsoft Access 2010
Goals:
Enhance employment opportunities and personal knowledge
Prerequisites:
All clients interested in entering into MOS must meet the following requirements:
- High school diploma or GED
- Have a keyboard speed of at least 20 wpm
- 8th grade spelling level
- Print reading speed of 60 wpm with 75% (If print user)
- Proficient with screen reader/magnification software
- Good independent living skills
- Pass a Wonderlic test
Assistive Technology Training Program
Self-paced individualized training may include one or more of the following:
- Speech packages
- Large print packages
- Note taking devices
- OCR/Scanners
- GPS
- Operating systems
- Other new equipment as it becomes available
Goals:
Enhance independence and employability
Prerequisites:
- Flexible
- Interact well with others
- Strong logical reasoning ability
- Keyboarding skills
